TOYOTA line-up-2

Estima/Previa

The third generation was introduced in 2006 in the Japanese and Australian markets as Estima and Tarago, respectively, and as the Previa elsewhere. Features include an available second-generation Hybrid Synergy Drive drivetrain, automatic parallel and back-in parking, track-mounted second row reclining seats with footrests, and power-folding split third row seats.

The second generation Estima Hybrid, currently only sold in Japan and Hong Kong, uses a drivetrain very similar to the Lexus RX400h with 3 electric motors - 2 for front-wheel drive (HSD) plus one for rear wheel drive.

As with the previous generation, the Australian version of the automobile continued to use a 2.4L engine. In February 2007, a 3.5L V6 engine (202kW, 340Nm torque) became available in order for the automobile to remain competitive against its main rivals in Australia, the Honda Odyssey and the Kia Carnival. The 2.4L engine was widely criticized for lacking torque.

Some of the markets such as Hong Kong and Taiwan announced the V6 Previa 3.5L in January 2007.

The Previa continues to be excluded from North America as the locally-produced Sienna occupies that market.

In many parts of Europe the price setter in this segment has, since the late 1990s, been a joint venture vehicle produced in Portugal by Ford and Volkswagen. By 2004 this vehicle was coming to the end of its model life and run-out versions were heavily discounted. Competitors found themselves responding to the discounts or losing market share. In many European markets Toyota branded vehicles achieve a price premium, but scope for this is not unlimited. Ford’s replacement Galaxy, launched in 2006, was also aggressively priced, which offers one clue as to why Toyota have yet to launch the third generation Previa in Europe, where healthier margins are available on smaller slightly nimbler minivans and in the still hugely lucrative luxury four wheel drive segment.

FJ Cruiser

The Toyota FJ Cruiser (FJC) is a retro-style compact SUV produced by Toyota introduced as a concept at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show and in production form at the following North American International Auto Show. It went on sale in early 2006 as a 2007 model and features styling reminiscent of the original Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers from the 1960s (particularly the front fascia and wrap around rear windows), and is based on the Land Cruiser Prado platform, which is also used by the 4Runner. The FJ cruiser was not originally intended for production but due to enormous consumer response about the car following the North American International Auto Show, production eventually began in early 2006. All FJ Cruisers are built by Hino Motors in Hamura, Japan.

Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner is a sport utility vehicle produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota for some Asian, African and Latin American markets.

Assembled in Asia and South America, the Fortuner is built on the well-established platform of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. It features three rows of seats with fulltime four-wheel drive among others. The Fortuner is part of Toyota's IMV project which include the Hilux, Innova and the Avanza.

Toyota initiated the IMV project to optimize global manufacturing and supply systems for pickup trucks and multipurpose vehicles, and to satisfy market demand in more than 140 countries worldwide. IMV calls for diesel engines to be made in Thailand, gasoline engines in Indonesia and manual transmissions in the Philippines and India, for supply to the countries charged with vehicle production. For vehicle assembly, Toyota will use plants in Thailand, Indonesia, Argentina and South Africa. These four main IMV production and export bases will supply Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, Latin America and the Middle East with the five all-new IMV vehicles. IMV-series vehicle production including that in countries other than the four main production bases is projected to exceed 500,000 units in 2006.

A number of engine options are available depending on the country of sale, including a 2.7 liter 2TR-FE and 4.0 liter 1GR-FE V6 petrol with Variable Valve Timing and 2.5 2KD-FTV and 3.0 1KD-FTV common rail variable geometry turbocharger Diesel models.

Trim levels are G and G Luxury for rear-wheel drive diesel and gasoline, and V for four-wheel drive Diesel and gasoline. The common rail turbo intercooled diesel has functional scoop on its hood.

Harrier

The Lexus RX is a mid-size entry-level luxury crossover SUV produced by Toyota Motor Corporation. In North America, Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia, including Singapore as a 2003 introduction and Japan as a 2008 introduction, it is sold by Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, as the Lexus RX series (such as the RX 300, RX 330 and RX 350). It is currently sold in Japan and previously in Singapore as the Toyota Harrier. The RX first premiered in 1997 as a Lexus concept, followed several months later by debut of the production RX 300/Harrier models. In 2003, the second generation RX debuted in the U.S., and the redesigned RX 330/Harrier went on sale shortly after. In 2004, the RX line added the world's first luxury hybrid, the RX 400h, and the RX 330 was upgraded to the RX 350 for model year 2007.

As one of the first crossover SUVs on the market, the Lexus RX has served as a model for subsequent designs. Its commercial success as Lexus' best-selling model has been attributed to the strong reliability reputation of Lexus and the RX line. The RX designation, coincidently similar to the unrelated Mazda RX-7/RX-8 coupes and the Kia Rio RX-V station wagon in Canada, signifies its place in the Lexus lineup next to the larger GX and LX SUVs. The RX series is designed to combine the functional characteristics of a SUV with the ride and features of a luxury sedan.

Highlander

Toyota revealed the second-generation Highlander and Highlander Hybrid at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. The sole powertrain in the ‘08 Highlander is a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 mated to a five-speed automatic (the 155 horsepower (116 kW) four-cylinder model has been discontinued). While the 3.5-liter has 55 more horses than the previous Highlander’s optional 3.3-liter V6, the dimensional increases add a claimed 500 pounds to the new Highlander’s curb weight which we expect to be around 4500 pounds. Despite the increase in power and weight, Toyota promises that fuel economy will be nearly on par with the previous Highlander which was 19 city/25 highway for front-wheel drive models, 18/24 for all-wheel drive. The Highlander has moved production to Ikeda, Osaka, Japan, where Daihatsu is based in, during its redesign. A new production facility is being built in Blue Springs, Mississippi, which will begin producing Highlanders for the North American market in the 2011 model year.

Three trim levels are offered (Base, Sport, and Limited) and buyers will also be able to choose between front-drive or all-wheel drive. Sport and Limited models get a standard rear-view camera that does not require purchasing the optional navigation system. Major options include leather seats, heated seats, a touch-screen navigation system, an upgraded stereo, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, and a towing package that increases towing capacity to 5000 pounds. The five-passenger version was dropped, replaced by the 2009 Toyota Venza.

In Australia, the new generation Kluger was launched in August, 2007. There are 3 grades available, KX-R, KX-S and Grande. All grades are available with either 2WD or AWD. The base model KX-R is also available with either 5 or 7 seats, whilst the latter grades are 7 seaters only. Specifications are mostly similar to the US Highlander, sharing the same 3.5 litre V6 2GR-FE engine and 5 speed automatic transmission. However, there are no plans at present to introduce a hybrid version of the Kluger into the Australian market.

Hiace

The fifth generation Hiace appeared in August 2004 as a wide long-wheelbase wagon, wide super-long-wheelbase high-roof "Grand Cabin", long-wheelbase van, long-wheelbase high-roof van and a wide super-long-wheelbase high-roof van. In this generation the gear stick has been moved to the dash-board to enable easier movement in the cabin. Four-speed, five-speed and automatic transmission versions are available.

All of the models use a 4-cylinder DOHC engine, in a variety of forms: 1TR-FE 2000 cc petrol, 2TR-FE 2700 cc petrol or 2KD-FTV 2500 cc common rail DOHC intercooled turbo diesel.

Wheels magazine found in a van test that the diesel model could, in factory standard form, do donuts continuously with the speedometer reading nearly 100 km/h (62 mph) .

Innova/Qualis/Unser/Revo

The Toyota Innova is an Indonesian designed large MPV produced in Indonesia under supervision by Toyota Astra Motor since 2003. As with Toyota Kijang, which it replaced, the Toyota Innova is produced and first marketed in 2003 in Indonesia. Toyota Innova is part of Toyota's IMV program together with Hilux Vigo pickup truck and Fortuner PPV. The official name in Indonesia is Toyota Kijang Innova, while for other countries is just Innova.

Powering the Innova is either 2.0 liter 136 hp (101 kW) 1TR-FE VVT-i, 2.7 liter 2TR-FE VVT-i gasoline, or 2.5 liter 102 hp (76 kW) 2KD-FTV D4-D common rail variable geometry turbocharger Diesel engine. Trim levels are J, E, G, and V. The 2.7 liter is only for V with automatic transmission. It features a live rear axle and it is of front engined rear wheel drive configuration. Newly added V variant adds ABS, leather seats and captain chairs.

The Innova is also sold in India (replacing Toyota Qualis), Malaysia (replacing Toyota Unser), the Philippines (replacing Toyota Revo), and Thailand. Unlike some of the Innova's competition, such as the TATA Sumo and the Chevrolet Tavera, the Innova looks more like a minivan — in fact, its styling can be said to be similar to Toyota's other MPV offerings, namely the USDM Toyota Sienna and the Toyota Previa. In addition the Innova was designed to be affordable and not expensive as the other MPVs in India. The Toyota Innova is also available in Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, the UAE and Vietnam.

Land Cruiser

The Toyota Land Cruiser was redesigned for 2008. Known as the 200 Series, it will share the 2008 Lexus LX's platform and overall design. Though many time-honored Land Cruiser supporters have welcomed the re-invigoration of the mechanical aspects of the vehicle, the 200 Series has encountered criticism due to its controversial body restyling, with some claiming that Toyota has 'overdeveloped' the classic trademarked Land Cruiser identity in its efforts to fit the Land Cruiser in to modern 21st century motoring. Toyota presented its completely redesigned Land Cruiser in October at the 2007 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. The vehicle entered production in September and was available for sale in November 2007. Although the new Land Cruiser was presented at its first motor show in Sydney, it was already on sale in Japan, launched there in September 2007. This Sirion was designed for European tastes, and the model took on a larger and stockier frame. It weighs about 940 kg (2072 lb).

Boasting a remarkable amount of interior space, split-folding rear seats, numerous safety features and impressive fuel economy, the Sirion found its niche as a small-family MPV.

With the back seats down, its luggage capacity increases from 225 to 630 litres. In the 'European New Car Assessment Programme' (NCAP), it scored a credible 4 out of 5 stars.

On May 25, 2005, Malaysian car maker Perodua launched a variant of the Sirion known as the Perodua Myvi. Sporting a few cosmetic differences, the Myvi became Perodua's best-selling model.

In 2007, Daihatsu launched the Sirion in Indonesia using the facility and parts from the Perodua Myvi.

Also in 2007, the new Subaru Justy was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and using the Daihatsu Sirion/Toyota Passo model it is positioned as an entry-level model in Subaru’s line-up. This is more than expected since Toyota has some stakeholding in Subaru.

The interior was updated with metallic paint finish on the center console and instrument binnacle surround, white-faced dials and sports seats.

Sequoia

Toyota unveiled the 2008 Toyota Sequoia at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was designed to look more like it's platform counterpart, the Tundra. The model is based of the new Tundra, which was launched in February 2007. Improvements include an optional 381 horsepower 5.7 liter V8, optional power folding split third row seats, and larger dimensions in every area. The 2008 Sequoia comes in three trim lines: the SR5 and Limited, featured on the first generation, and the Platinum, which is new for Toyota. Pricing ranges from about $35,000 to $55,000 depending upon the trim line and configuration.

The base engine is the 4.7 liter 276 horsepower V8 featured on the previous generation, though a newer replacement may be in the works. The 4.7 liter is standard on the SR5, while the Limited and Platinum model comes standard with the new engine. Four wheel drive is available on all models.

The interior of the 2008 Sequoia has been completely redesigned, featured the new, somewhat controversial dash of the new Tundra. Powered by a 1.5 liter petrol engine capable of 110 bhp (82 kW) at 6000 rpm, the Sienta comes equipped with CVT transmission for smooth effortless cruising. ABS and EBD are standard safety features.

The interior is highly flexible with the seats able to be knocked down in various configurations to accommodate varying luggage sizes. Multi compartments are available in convenient areas of the cabin for easy storage of small useful items. Large sliding doors at the rear ensures ease of entry for passengers.

This is a car commonly seen in Japan, due to its easy maintenance, low FC for MPVs ranging from 12km/l to 16km/l, and its great sliding doors.

Toyota Sienta received a facelift in Year 2006, 3 years since its first production. Newer colors are being added, such as Apple Green, Gun-Metal Grey, and Metallic Blue.

Tacoma

At the 2004 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota unveiled a bigger and more powerful Tacoma. This new Tacoma was available in eighteen different configurations, that included three cab configurations, four transmissions, two engines, and two bed lengths. Toyota also introduced an X-Runner trim, which replaces the slow selling S-Runner trim from the previous generation. The X-Runner features a 4.0 liter V6 with a six speed manual transmission, 18 in (457.2 mm)ch alloy wheels, and lowered suspension. The Tacoma's all new 4.0 liter V6 took the place of the original 3.4 liter V6. The new 4.0 liter V6 had many enhancements, such as a new 6500 pound tow rating, and a payload capacity of 1650 pounds. The 4.0 liter produces 236 horsepower (176 kW) and 266 foot-pounds of torque. The smaller, 4 cylinder alternative to the 4.0 in less expensive models is the rated at 159 horsepower (119 kW) and 180 lb·ft (244 N·m). of torque. At 2.7 liters, it is much different than its predecessor 3RZ-FE, in that it has VVT-i and different build material. Toyota also included a Down-Hill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-Side Assist Control (HAC), with models that were equipped with the optional Toyota Racing Development (TRD) packages. A locking rear differential, limited-slip differential were also some optional features. Every Tacoma was manufactured with a composite inner bed that includes a deck rail system with four tie down cleats, hook-pins, storage boxes, and a power outlet (models with TRD packages). The tie down cleats are rated to hold up to 220 lb (100 kg). The 2006 model Tacoma was a bit different from the 2005 model. The 2006 model made some options standard. Minor changes have been made to the 2007 models such as new engine which runs on regular gasoline and delivers better fuel economy than the previous models, and the seating system was updated. Toyota also added 2 new interior colors for 2007 model year. 2008 models are carry on's from 2007. The second generation Tacomas are assembled in Fremont, California while the beds are built in Mexico.

Tundra

A much larger Tundra (and now a full-size pickup) was introduced at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show. It had lifted cues of its smaller brother the Toyota Tacoma along with some cues from the Toyota FTX concept truck. The truck had many enhancements, such as a towing capacity of up to 10,000+ lb, a payload capacity of over 2,000 lb (910 kg), and a new 6-speed automatic transmission. The second generation Tundra has 3 engines available. A new 5.7 liter V8 that produces 381 horsepower (284 kW) and 401 pound feet of torque, a 4.7 liter V8 is rated at 271 horsepower (202 kW) and 313 pound feet of torque, and 4.0 liter V6 is rated at 236 horsepower (176 kW) and 266 pound feet of torque.

When the new Tundra first came out in February 2007 it was available in 31 configurations, which consisted of 3 bed lengths, 3 cab configurations, 4 wheel-bases,and 2 transmissions The new Double Cab replaces the previous generations Access Cab, and the all new Crew Max replaces the previous generations Double Cab, it is also built to compete with the Dodge Ram Mega Cab. The Double Cab is available with a 6 and a half foot bed, regular bed, or an 8-foot (2.4 m) long bed, while the Crew Max is only available with a 5 and a half foot short bed. The Tundra also features a new 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode which is standard with the 5.7 liter, and gives it a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds, and a quarter mile time of 14.7 seconds. The 5.7 liter is a VVT-i (Varible Valve Timing with intelligence) engine, which is built to deliver power and fuel economy. The Tundra 5.7 liter 4x2's are rated to deliver an estimated 20 miles (32 km) to the gallon on the highway.

Toyota also tried to make the new Tundra useful for many construction workers, by including extra large door handles, deck rail system, integrated tow hitch, and headrests that can fit a worker with his hard hat on. The Tundra also includes a limited slip differential, Down Hill Assist Control (DAC), Hill Side Assist Control (HAC), and tailgate assist. Toyota also included a 400 watt/100 watt power outlett mounted in the bed, for all models that come with the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) package. However, its high starting MSRP of $22,290 makes it more expensive than the Chevy Silverado Work Truck (MSRP $17,860) and the base Ford F-150 (MSRP $17,345).

Some other changes Toyota included in the new Tundra are tow mirrors, a 27 gallon fuel tank, available 20-inch (510 mm) alloy wheels, backup camera, bluetooth, large center console (big enough to fit a laptop), extra-large disc brakes, and the aforementioned 6-speed automatic transmission.

The all new Tundra is assembled in two different locations, both inside the United States.
