GM line-up -2

Saab

Saab Automobile AB
is an automobile manufacturing company in Sweden, and is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation. Saab is the exclusive automobile Royal Warrant Holder appointed by H.M. the King of Sweden. Saab directly competes with products from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo.

9-3

The Saab 9-3 is a compact executive car produced by the automaker Saab in Trollhättan, Sweden, although the convertible (cabriolet) version is made under license in Austria. It shares platforms with the Opel Vectra and the Cadillac BLS, although is only similar enough to the Cadillac BLS in order to be made on the same assembly line in Sweden. It has been always Saab's entry-level model, except in 2005-2006, when the Subaru Impreza-based Saab 9-2X was its entry-level model. The 2008 range, presented at the Saab Festival in Trollhättan, Sweden (June 10, 2007) included new frontal styling inspired by the Saab Aero-X, new door panels, a clamshell hood, and frosted rear lamps. Slight exterior modifications are available on the limited-edition XWD 280bhp 9-3 Turbo X, presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show (9/07). The Turbo X will make its North American debut at the New England Auto show in late November.  Saab is also planning to release an all wheel drive verson of the Aero, with the system dubbed "XWD", in February or March.

9-5

The Saab 9-5 is an executive car produced by the Swedish automobile maker Saab. It was introduced in 1997 as the replacement to the Saab 9000. The 9-5 replaced the 9000 in the spring of 1997 for the 1998 model year. At the time, the car represented a great leap forward for Saab. In the US, the 9-5 was introduced in the spring of 1998, for the 1999 model year.

The 9-5 is available with sedan and station wagon body styles. Aerodynamically, the sedan's drag coefficient is 0.29, and the station wagon's is 0.31, which was introduced in 1999. It features such innovations as tracks to secure cargo down and a sliding load floor to make loading easier.

Badged as a 95, Saab consistently advertises it as the 9-5. The name is pronounced "nine five" rather than "ninety five". This model should not be confused with the Saab 95, produced from 1959 to 1978.Earlier it was said that an all new 9-5 would be presented by the end of 2008, for the 2009 model year. Recent information however suggests that the current 9-5 will be replaced in 2009, for the 2010 model year. The new model will be based on GM's Epsilon 2 platform, shared with the next generation 9-3, and probably built in Ruesselsheim, Germany at the Opel plant.

9-7X

The Saab 9-7X is a Saab-branded mid-size luxury SUV based on the GM GMT platform, which also includes the Chevrolet TrailBlazer (and for this the 9-7X has been given the nickname "Trollblazer", even if it is not built in Trollhättan, Sweden, the traditional production town for Saabs), GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, and the Isuzu Ascender. It is built on the same USA production line in Moraine, Ohio, using most of the same parts as its sister vehicles. With the exception of the Trailblazer SS and the Envoy Denali, it is the most expensive SUV out of GM's mid-size SUVs, and the most expensive Saab ever. The 9-7X is the first American-built Saab, and jointly replaced the Oldsmobile Bravada as the flagship GMT360 SUV. Indeed, most of the 9-7X's body panels are shared with the now-defunct Bravada, and it is mostly distinguished by its unique front fascia, hood, headlamps, and tail lamps. The 9-7X, along with the now-discontinued Saab 9-2X are one of the first Saabs to feature all-wheel drive, and it is also the first production Saab with a V8 engine. It was also the only GMT360 SUV to not support rear-wheel drive.

The car features substantial chassis revisions, including a 1 in (25.4 mm) lower ride and revised bushings and dampers, standard rear air suspension, and quicker steering to sharpen the handling. Inside, the design is inspired by the Saab 9-5 with features like the console-mounted ignition switch and swing-out cupholder retained. The idiosyncratic "night panel" switch, which extinguishes all "unnecessary" dash lighting, is missing, however as well as the Saab active head restraints.

The GMT360-based 9-7X is not scheduled to be updated after 2009. Originally, its place in the Saab lineup was to be taken by the Subaru B9 Tribeca-based Saab 9-6X, but since GM has sold off their Subaru stock, the project has been cancelled. Instead, the spot will be taken by the Theta-based 9-4X, which is due out as a 2010 model.

Opel/Vauxhall

Adam Opel GmbH (commonly known as Opel) is an automobile manufacturer based in Rüsselsheim in the Groß-Gerau district in the Rhein-Main region of Germany.

The company was founded on 21 January 1863, and began making automobiles in 1899. Opel was acquired by General Motors Corporation in 1929 and continues as a subsidiary. Opel is part of GM Europe, and is GM's largest European brand, and with Vauxhall Motors in the UK, forms GM's core European business.

Vauxhall Motors is a UK car company. It is a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (GM), and is part of GM Europe. Most current Vauxhall models are right-hand drive derivatives of GM's Opel brand. There are also several performance vehicles coming from Opel Performance Center (OPC), Holden/Holden Special Vehicles in Australia and Lotus Cars of Norfolk, England.

Agila

The second-generation Agila was officially announced on May 15 2007 and will be presented at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.  Suzuki will sell this model as the Splash. The car is 200 mm (7.9 in) longer than its predecessor, that is bigger than traditional city cars and similar to small superminis and mini MPVs like the Peugeot 1007, Toyota Yaris, Renault Modus and Nissan Micra.

Petrol engines will be a three cylinder 1.0-litre 65 hp (48 kW) and a four cylinder 1.2-litre 86 hp (64 kW), and the diesel unit a four cylinder 1.3-litre 75 hp (56 kW) with common rail technology.

Corsa

The Opel Corsa is a supermini that has been produced by General Motors' European subsidiary Opel since 1982. It has also been sold under a variety of other brands (most notably Vauxhall, Chevrolet , and Holden), and also spawned various derivatives in different markets, all of which are listed in appropriate sections below.

Despite its global presence, it has never been sold in the United States or Canada.

The Corsa was built at GM's plant in Zaragoza in Spain, and also in countries like Germany (Eisenac), Argentina (Rosario), Brazil (São Caetano do Sul and São José dos Campos), Colombia (Bogotá), Mexico (Ramos Arizpe), South Africa (Port Elizabeth), India (Halol), and China (Shanghai).

Astra

The Opel Astra, Saturn Astra and Chevrolet Astra are small family cars designed and manufactured by Opel, the European subsidiary of General Motors.

It is branded as an Opel in continental Europe, the Republic of Ireland, the Middle East, North Africa, and South Africa, as Vauxhall in the United Kingdom, as Holden in Australasia, and as Chevrolet in Latin America. In Russia, it is sold as both an Opel and Chevrolet. Starting with the 2008 model year, the vehicle is exported to the United States and Canada, where it is sold as a Saturn.

The Astra is now built in Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, Poland, Ukraine and Russia, as well as being assembled in CKD kits in other countries.

Vectra

Built over the GM Epsilon platform the Opel Vectra C of 2002 was initially available as a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback, known as the GTS. A five-door station wagon was added in 2003, along with an "executive hatchback" sold under the Signum nameplate. The Signum, which is based partly on the Vectra C features a completely different layout in the rear.

The engine range was substantially modified to account for an increased curb weight. While a 90 kW (121 hp) 1.8 litre Family 1 Ecotec engine was reserved for the base model, a 2.0 litre turbocharged Family II engine with 129 kW (173 hp) was also offered, along with a new 3.2 litre V6, with 155 kW (208 hp). Diesel power, which by now was an important for commercial success in Europe, is provided by an Isuzu-sourced 3.0 litre V6 outputting 132 kW (177 hp), but the four-cylinder diesel engine was replaced in 2004 by a Fiat-designed 1.9 litre Ecotec CDTI engine capable of outputting 110 kW (148 hp). Handling is reported to be much better than the old car, but reviews still criticise the overlight feel of the steering, complicated indicator switches and the rather ungainly styling of the sedan version.

The Vectra received a facelift near the end of 2005, and the V6 engine was replaced by an Australian-built a turbocharged 2.8 litre High Feature V6 unit. More importantly, Opel introduced, for the first time, an OPC version the Vectra was launched, using the VXR name in the United Kingdom. These high-performance variants were available only in the hatchback and station wagon bodies. In the United Kingdom, the power on the High Feature engine was increased to 188 kW (252 hp), and maximum speed just falls short of 250 km/h (155 mph). In Australia and New Zealand, the Holden Vectra ZC series was dropped and replaced with the Holden Epica, a badge-engineered Daewoo Tosca in 2007. Due to stockpiling of 2005 model Vectras for the Australasian market, there was enough supply of the car for deliveries to last through to 2007, as a result facelifted Vectra Cs were not sold in those markets.

Sales of the Vectra in the United Kingdom have not been as strong as its predecessor's. For much of its production life, the original Vectra was the fourth best selling car in the country, yet the Vectra C has never come higher than tenth in the country's car sales charts, though it is still the second best selling car in its sector behind the Ford Mondeo. In 2007, it finally made the top 10 of Britain's car sales charts, being the nation's tenth most popular new car with over 50,000 sales, outselling the Ford Mondeo for the first time since 1999. Also in 2007, the station wagon variant garnered the Estate Car of the Year 2007 award by What Car? magazine.

While the Vectra C is sold in Mexico and Chile as a Chevrolet, it is not marketed in Brazil, where a new, locally designed Vectra saloon, based on the Astra H was released in October 2005. This model replaced the Vectra B, which was still available in Brazil until that date. This new model will also be sold in Eastern Europe as the Opel Astra. A hatchback version, released in 2007, is basically a clone of the Astra H, is sold as the Chevrolet Vectra GT.

Tigra Twin Top

After an absence of a four years, Opel resurrected the Tigra nameplate in 2004 for a new sports car based on the Corsa C. The Tigra Twin Top, as it was called, is a 2-seater coupé convertible with a retractable hardtop in the fashion of the Peugeot 206 CC. The Tigra is produced by French coachworks Heuliez.

Like its predecessor, the Tigra Twin Top is available with two petrol-powered engines. The base model uses the 1.4 L engine with 90 PS (66 kW), but now from the Twinport family, different from the previous generation's 1.4, while the top of the range uses the Ecotec 1.8 L from the Corsa GSi, with 125 PS (92 kW). An economic version, using Fiat's Multijet 1.3 Diesel engine, was introduced in 2005.

The second generation is marketed in Australasia as the XC-series Holden Tigra, only with the 1.8 L engine.

GT

The Opel GT is a two-seat sports car introduced in 1968 by Opel, a German possession of General Motors. It relied partly on components from the contemporary Opel Kadett B and had a body made by French contractor Brissonneau & Lotz.

Its styling has been likened to the Chevrolet Corvette C3 of the same year.

Although the life of the GT was limited to six model years, after a 34-year hiatus it is returning as a 2007 model based on the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, and to be built alongside them in Wilmington, Delaware, USA.

Meriva

The Opel Meriva is a mini MPV based on the platform of the third generation Opel Corsa and sold under that name on all of the European markets with the exception of the UK, where it is called the Vauxhall Meriva. It is also sold in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina under the Chevrolet marque. It is built in São Caetano do Sul, Brazil by General Motors do Brasil and in Zaragoza, Spain, by Opel. It first appeared in late 2002.

The Meriva is available with petrol and turbodiesel engines ranging from 1.3 L to 1.8 L, with power going from 70 PS (51 kW) to 125 PS (92 kW). The base model is also available with an Easytronic sequential manual transmission.

Antara

The Opel Antara is a mid-size crossover SUV produced in South Korea by GM Daewoo, but sold under the Opel brand. Launched in 2007, the Antara is based on the GM Theta platform which shares its underpinnings and powertrains with the Daewoo Winstorm. However, it has a different exterior and interior design, along with different exterior dimensions. In the United Kingdom, the car is sold as the Vauxhall Antara. In Australia and New Zealand the car is known as the Holden Captiva MaXX, and in North America as the Saturn VUE. In the Middle East, the vehicle is sold as the GMC Terrain, and as the Chevrolet Captiva in Mexico.

Combo

The Combo is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle from General Motors, which is branded as Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Chevrolet, depending on the market.

The Combos share platforms, vital components and some body panels with contemporary subcompact Opel Corsas, which used to be a typical pedigree for such a vehicle. The generations are denoted A and B in typical Opel fashion, but Holden applied the codes SB and XC respectively, reflecting the relation with SB and XC Holden Barinas (Opel Corsa B and C, respectively)

The Combo first appeared in 1994, and a second generation model was introduced in 2001. The name "Combo" was previously applied to a 3-door panel van body style of Opel Kadett E.

Movano

The Opel/Vauxhall Movano is a mid-sized commercial vehicle sold in Europe from year 1999 and underwent its first facelift in late 2003. The vehicle is available in a wide range of variants, including a choice of three wheelbases, three roof heights and three gross vehicle weights. As well as cargo carrying panel vans, there are also six and nine seat Combi variants, a seven seat crew cab and chassis cabs models. A sixteen seat bus model is also available.

The development of Movano was undertaken by French manufacturer Renault and is also sold as the Renault Master and Nissan Interstar.

Vivaro

The Opel Vivaro – sold in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall Vivaro – is a medium-sized light commercial vehicle (LCV or PKW) originally launched in 2001, and is available in panel van, minibus, combined bus/van and platform-cab configurations. Two wheelbases and two roof heights are available, as well as three diesel engines and a petrol engine.

The vehicle resulted from a joint venture between General Motors (owners of Opel and Vauxhall) and French manufacturer Renault, and is also sold as the Renault Trafic and by their ally Nissan as the Nissan Primastar. The vehicle is primarily manufactured at GMM Luton Vehicles (previously IBC) in England, and also by Nissan at their Zona Franca facility in Barcelona.

The vehicle is distinguished by its somewhat flamboyant and unconventional front design, compared with its more traditional competitors such as the smaller variants of the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter.

The Opel / Vauxhall Vivaro won the Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine Van of the Year 2006 Award, having been judged against competitors by a panel of van users, buyers and asset management professionals.

HSV Clubsport R8

The HSV Clubsport R8 is a full-size car produced by Holden Special Vehicles in Australia since 1990. The car has also been sold in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall VXR8 since July 2007. The Clubsport R8 takes its fundamental body structure from the mainstream Holden VE Commodore. It is also the standard model in the HSV Line up.

Pontiac

Pontiac is a marque of automobile produced by General Motors and sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico from 1926 to the present. In the GM brand lineup, Pontiac is a mid-level brand featuring a sportier, high-performance driving experience for a reasonable price, and its advertisements appeal to younger customers.

G3/Wave

The Aveo T200 models were introduced to the US and Canada 2004 models at the 2003 (February) Chicago Auto Show as the Chevrolet Aveo. The US 5-door and 4-door models went on sale in November 2003, and as reported by the Boston Globe in November 2006, "the Aveo (was) the largest-selling subcompact in the United States".

The T250 sedan debuted in January 2006 as the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales commenced in North America in August 2006. The Aveo 5-door hatchback has been marketed as the "Aveo5" in Canada since its inception and in the US beginning with model year 2007. The models are sold as Pontiac Wave (4-door and 5-door) and Suzuki Swift+ (5-door) in Canada. The T200 Wave sedan was replaced for the 2007 model year with the T250, coinciding with the release of the 2007 T250 Aveo.

G4/G5

The Pontiac G5 is a compact car introduced by Pontiac in 2004 for the 2005 model year. For 2005 and early 2006, this car was known as the Pontiac Pursuit in the Canadian market, and G5 Pursuit during mid-2006. It was also known as the Pontiac G4 in Mexico from 2005-2006. It was released to the U.S. market in August 2006 as a 2007 model.

The G5 is based upon the GM Delta platform along with the Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet HHR, Saturn ION, and European Opel Astra (badged Saturn Astra in the United States and Canada). The vehicle is available as a sedan in Canada and Mexico. In the United States, the G5 is only available as a coupe.

G6

The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car released in September 2004 for the 2005 model year. It uses the GM Epsilon platform, sharing it with the Cadillac BLS, Chevrolet Malibu, Fiat Croma, Opel Vectra, Saab 9-3, and Saturn Aura. Introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, the G6 is a direct replacement for the Grand Am, and is also aimed at the market formerly held by the Grand Prix. The G6 is the sole replacement for both vehicles in Mexico, since that market will not initially receive the new Pontiac G8.

Although the EPA lists the G6 as a compact car, its relative, the Chevrolet Malibu is listed as a mid-size car by the EPA both cars are still considered mid-size.

The G6 was based on the G6 Concept revealed at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show. The concept featured 20 inch wheels, and a 285 horsepower supercharged engine. The car was based on the design theme that Pontiac would from then on be the "athletic" division of General Motors. The G6 name is new but the car is a replacement for the Grand Am. The G6 is available as a sedan, a coupe and a hardtop convertible. Although the G6 was new to the public, in many respects it could be considered the sixth generation of the Grand Am (with G6 standing for Grand Am 6th Generation), even though that name was retired.

Within a year of its launch, the G6 had become the 11th best selling car in the United States (2005), and won several consumer-based industry awards from JD Power (APEAL), Strategic Vision ("Total Quality" and "Delight") and became a Consumer Reports Recommended Buy. Car of the Year by the Spanish magazine Automundo.

Pontiac introduced a convertible version of the G6 with a retractable hardtop at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. The G6 convertible began arriving on dealership lots during spring 2006. The starting price for the GT trim level was $28,490; while the GTP started at $29,990. At launch, it was the most inexpensive retractable hardtop available in the U.S. market.

In its May 22, 2006 issue, Time magazine put the G6 on a two-car list, along with the Buick Terraza, of GM cars that "aren't going anywhere." Time continued to say that "GM did not capitalize on the G6's good reviews for interior styling and power train. It delayed a cheaper, four-cylinder version, as well as a coupe and convertible. Nevertheless, G6 sales grew +20% in 2006 over 2005 after all body styles were released, and 45% of its sales come from outside GM.

Grand Prix

The Pontiac Grand Prix is an automobile produced by the Pontiac division of General Motors. First introduced as part of Pontiac's full-size model offering for the 1962 model year, the Grand Prix name has also been applied to cars in the personal luxury car market segment and the mid-size offering, slotting below the large Bonneville in the company's lineup. As of model year 2008, the Grand Prix is Pontiac's second largest automotive offering in production, superseding the recently discontinued Pontiac Bonneville and second only to the Pontiac G8, a replacement for both the Grand Prix and Bonneville.

Matiz G2

In Mexico, the Matiz was introduced to the market in 2003. The 2006 model was renamed to Pontiac Matiz G2. It was also sold as Pontiac Matiz and Pontiac G2.

Solstice

The Pontiac Solstice is a roadster from the Pontiac division of General Motors. Introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, the Solstice began production in Wilmington, Delaware, starting in mid-2005 for the 2006 model year. The exterior styling of the production Solstice is similar to that of the 2002 Solstice concept  that preceded it. Production of the Solstice was to be running before Summer 2005, but delays at the Wilmington plant pushed volume production to the fourth quarter.

The Solstice uses the GM Kappa platform, which also underpins the Saturn Sky and Opel GT. Pontiac may eventually build a fixed-roof coupe version, which would allow the Solstice to be eligible for certain racing events not open to convertibles.

The Solstice was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award and Design of the Year award from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) for 2006. It has been a runaway hit for Pontiac, with 7,000 orders in the first 10 days of availability and 6,000 more orders before winter. Although first-year production was planned at 7,000, GM apologized to customers for delays and increased production, delivering 10,000 by March 1. The base price was adjusted upwards to $20,490 in mid-December, but most buyers report paying $5,000 or more over sticker to get a Solstice. The Solstice currently has an MSRP of $22,115

Vibe

The Pontiac Vibe is a compact hatchback car produced in Fremont, California, in the United States by NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc), a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. It is a short and tall hatchback that is being marketed as a trendy, quasi-SUV (or Station Wagon) vehicle for younger buyers. Prototypes were shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2000 and production vehicles came on the market in 2002 for the 2003 model year. The Vibe is the mechanical counterpart of the Toyota Corolla Matrix and is based on the Toyota Corolla's E-platform. It is currently the only hatchback in the American Pontiac lineup other than the smaller Wave sold in Canada.

Torrent

The Pontiac Torrent is the latest sport utility vehicle (SUV) offered by the Pontiac division of General Motors, being the successor of the discontinued Pontiac Aztek. It is manufactured at CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada and it replaced the U-body Aztek as the company's crossover SUV for 2006. The Torrent is essentially a Chevrolet Equinox on the Theta platform. The Torrent was introduced at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show and went on sale in late summer 2005.

The Torrent shares its basic body structure and mechanicals with the Equinox; however, the Torrent has a different front and rear end which makes it appear like a Pontiac rather than a Chevrolet. The suspension was also modified to be firmer and sportier and was dubbed FE2. Finally, the electronic power steering was also recalibrated to deliver a firmer, less artificial feel. The Torrent shares the Equinox's 185 hp (138 kW) 3.4 L V6 built in China. It is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission that is made in Japan.

The Pontiac Torrent was featured as one of the prizes in the reality television series Survivor in 2005 as well as Criss Angel Mindfreak in the same year.
